Ghost Jaga

This is a Deluxe re-release version of Ghost Jaga with less accessories and a lower price point if you don’t want to pay the big bucks for the Ultimate version. Ghost Jaga comes with his translucent sword of Omens. Jaga is a translucent blue plastic with his plastic cape and looks incredible. His tunic looks to have a grey color which is different than the Ultimates version which has a more blueish tunic.

Mirror Lion-O

This is a Deluxe version of Mirror Lion-O with a little bit of a darker color scheme. He also comes just his sword of Omens and shinny claw shield. This Mirror Lion-O looks to be based on the third body type of Lion-O that we recently got as you can see he has that more simplistic cartoon looking hair sculpt and that near buck.

This is a Deluxe version of Old Man Mumm-Ra. From an initial look, he looks to be the same as the Ultimates version, but with no accessories. But if I’m not mistaken, the first version was based on the Mattel ThunderCats Classics sculpt, so perhaps this might be an all new sculpt! Maybe if we get these two in hand side by side, we will be able to tell the difference.

The packaging features the classic ThunderCats logo in its iconic chrome and red lettering across the top of the black card. The insert art behind the blister uses the classic white, ink-splatter effect which is a wonderful homage to the vintage LJN cardbacks and fits the character’s dark mystique well.

The back of the card showcases a gorgeous vintage-style illustration featuring Lion-O front and center hoisting the Sword of Omens overhead, flanked by the full ThunderCats crew including Cheetara, Panthro, Tygra, and Snarf, with Mumm-Ra and his snarling cat form looming on either side. I like the way this artwork captures that classic 1980s hand-painted look, with rich warm tones on the heroes contrasting against the cold greens and grays used for the villains.

Figure Details

Wrapped in sculpted bandages from torso to legs, Mumm-Ra’s pale blue skin peeks through where the wrappings gap, with individually sculpted toes and clawed fingers adding a nice level of detail to the old man form. The bandaged body and pale blue skin read well from this full-figure view, and those splayed claw hands complete the menacing look nicely.

A close-up reveals the sculpt on Mumm-Ra’s face in great detail, with sunken cheeks, a furrowed brow, and a mouth full of jagged, uneven teeth framed by that signature evil grin. His red eyes have a glossy finish that contrasts nicely against the matte pale blue of his skin.

The side profile without the cape gives a clean look at the bandage sculpt running down Mumm-Ra’s arm, with the wraps layering tightly around the bicep and forearm before giving way to his exposed pale blue clawed hand. A loose bandage strip trails from the back of his head, adding a bit of visual texture to an otherwise streamlined silhouette.

A close-up reveals Mumm-Ra’s pale blue skin has a slight glossy sheen across the forehead and cheeks, with dark shadowing sculpted deep into the eye sockets around those piercing red eyes. The new Deluxe figure is clearly a new body and face sculpt with improved articulation and a better stance. The Deluxe figure does not include any added accessories, where the Ultimates figure came with multiple accessories. The Ulitmates figure stand with his leg splayed out and carries his twisted black staff topped with a horned demon skull accented in red, along with a gold dagger, neither of which come with the Deluxe release. You will also notice that the Deluxe figure on the right has very white colored bandages where the Ultimates original release has much more tan colored bandages with a light worn looking wash.

From the rear, the difference in cape color between the two figures is striking, with the Deluxe release wrapped in a bright reddish orange cape, and the earlier Ultimates version draped in a deeper, richer red colored cape. The Ultimates figure’s twisted black staff with its horned demon skull tops rises above the red hood, while the Deluxe version shows just a hint of pale blue claw hand peeking out from beneath the orange fabric.

Old Man Mumm-Ra

This 7-inch scale figure comes loaded with options. You get two interchangeable heads, one with a neutral expression and one with a fierce snarling look, along with three pairs of swappable hands including grip, claws, and fists. And then there are the whips. Three of them! A posed whip, a retracted version, and a string whip, which gives you so many ways to display Tygra in action. The sculpt captures his classic animated look beautifully, from the tiger-striped detail to that confident stance, and the paint application is clean and sharp throughout. The back of the box features a large, detailed illustration of Tygra swinging his bolo-whip against a rocky landscape, with the artwork leaning into the classic 1985 animated series style. Below the art sits a character bio describing him as Lion-O’s counsel and the oldest ThunderCat, along with details about his abilities including invisibility and the power to create illusions.

Tygra’s full packout is laid out across two clear plastic trays. The left tray holds the figure alongside an alternate snarling head and two pairs of swap-out hands, while the right tray contains the three bolo-whip variations, including the string whip with its red-tipped ends and gold handles, plus the retracted and posed versions.

Figure Details

Two Tygra figures stand side by side, with the reissue on the left showing a slightly warmer, more saturated orange on his tiger-striped hair and arms compared to the original on the right. The teal of the leotard also reads a touch deeper on the reissue, while the original leotard leans a bit more green in its overall color. You will notice the reissue’s skin tone is a bit more subdued orange color while the original on the right has a brighter orange skin tone.

From the back, the two figures show similar sculpt work on the blue vest and gold arm cuff, though the reissue on the left has a slightly muted, cooler green tone to the skin compared to the original’s warmer hue. The tiger stripes running down the forearms also differ subtly, with the reissue’s black striping sitting over a more orange base while the original leans redder. The biggest difference and improvement to the reissue is that he now includes the elbow pad on his right elbow which was famously missed on the original Wave 2 version.

Tygra stands in a neutral pose, wearing his teal leotard with the red and black ThunderCats emblem on the chest and dark blue shin guards accented with small gold rivets. His bare feet have a nice sculpt to them, with individually separated toes that match the skin tone of his open hands.

His bare feet have individually sculpted toes, and the dark blue shin guards sit snugly above them. Here you can see the newly added elbow pad that was also found on the recent “Deluxe” edition as well.

From the back, Tygra’s teal vest has a clean V-shaped cut below the neck, and a small gold emblem sits on his right shoulder. His white and orange hair has a nice sculpted flow to it, with the black markings on his head carrying over neatly from the front.

From the left side, the gold scalloped emblem across Tygra’s chest catches the light nicely, sitting right at the seam where the darker teal of his vest meets the lighter mint green of the bodysuit. I like how the two-tone blue color blocking on his outfit reads so cleanly in profile, with the darker blue bands at the bicep and knee breaking things up.

Tygra up close and personal

A close-up reveals the sculpt work on Tygra’s face, with sharp angular eyebrows, a defined jawline, and his signature orange nose bridge stripe running between piercing brown eyes. The red and black ThunderCats emblem on his chest has a clean, raised sculpt that sits nicely against the teal of his collar.

From the back, Tygra’s head sculpt shows the orange tiger-striped fur wrapping fully around the crown, with a thick band of white hair sitting along the nape of the neck. The teal vest has a raised sculpted strap running diagonally across the back, and the orange and black tiger stripes continue down his left forearm where they meet a dark blue wrist guard.

Bo Staff

The long bo staff and the shorter bo staff peg are laid side by side, both finished in a warm gold metallic tone that has a subtle matte sheen to the plastic. The size difference between the two is significant, with the short peg piece measuring only a fraction of the full-length staff.

Mirror of Truth

Cheetara also includes the Miror of Truth mirror accessory. This treasure of Thundera was featured in the cartoon series episode “Mirror of Truth”

Mirror of Truth is one of the pieces of the Treasure of Thundera. The mirror itself has a gold frame with the ThunderCats insignia on its back. As its name implies, the mirror has the ability to show the truth. The mirror eliminates any kind of disguise or illusion and reveals a person’s true identity.

Along with the other pieces of the Treasure of Thundera, the mirror was also lost on New Thundera. In order to locate it, Mumm-Ra devised a clever scheme in which he first turned the adult ThunderCats into ThunderCubs. Then, disguising himself as Lion-O, Mumm-Ra ordered the ThunderCub Cheetara to use her sixth sense to locate the mirror. When the real Lion-O arrives, he tells the ThunderCubs to look into the Mirror of Truth and it shows them their adult forms as well as revealing Mumm-Ra’s true identity.

Cheetara is posed with the Mirror of Truth held out in front of her, its gold hexagonal frame and reflective face catching the light while the blue handle and gold crossguard add a nice splash of color to the accessory. The scattered black cheetah spots on the back of her flowing hairstyle head and across her shoulder blend naturally with the warm yellow and tan tones of the figure.

Magical Flute

Cheetara also includes the Magical Flute accessory as well. A special looking flute with 2 prongs, this special treasure of was yet another treasure of Thundera. It was featured in the cartoon series episode “Magical Flute”

The Magical Flute is one of the pieces of the Treasure of Thundera. It looks like a normal flute but branches in the middle into two woodwind tubes. It also bears the ThunderCats insignia on it. The flute itself is made of shiny silver metal. The flute gives its player total control over all animals including Snarfs and Ma-Mutt. The flute was found by Cheetara on New Thundera.

Initially the ThunderCats in the form of ThunderCubs used the flute to play tricks on Snarf and Snarfer, but later on they used it to bring Ma-Mutt under control and stop him from attacking Lion-O. Even Snarf was able to use the flute on Ma-Mutt. Later on, Lion-O used the flute to make Ma-Mutt take him and Snarf back to Third Earth by piloting the Mumm-Ra.

Communicators

Two communicator accessories are shown here, both finished in a warm gold tone and connected by a dark string cord. The open communicator reveals a pink circular face surrounded by small teal dots along its rim, while the closed version features a sculpted emblem on its lid with cutout shapes that give it a nice dimensional quality.

Alternate Hands

Four pairs of interchangeable hands are laid out here, each finished in a pale cream color with white peg connectors at the wrist. The set includes grip hands with curled fingers, open relaxed hands with spread digits, closed fists, and claw hands with fingers tensed inward, offering a solid range of display options for Cheetara.

Panthro’s packout is shown below. ThunderTank Recolor Tease

SDCC is around the corner and Super7 has some surprises up their sleeve. The first such surprise is coming before SDCC 2025 starts, and will be an Amazon Exclusive. Taking a look at the image below, it looks like we are getting an all new sculpt for Panthro. Can it be a pinless version? Deluxe or Ultimates Panthro? Only time will tell, but we will find out in two short days! Then is this an other version of the Thundertank? We crack the clues below. So let’s take a look at the Super7 ThunderCats Amazon Exclusive Vehicle tease!

Let’s explore my theory a little further. I believe this will be an LJN recolor of the Super7 Ultimates ThunderTank. This is consistent with what Super7 did last year by recoloring the TMNT Party Wagon into the Pizza Wagon. Let’s compare this teaser image with the original ThunderTank. Here we can see several control panel elements that match the original ThunderTank shown on the right (second) below. You can compare the blue console screen with the black one on the original tank and the shapes are the same! Also take a look at the clear cover windshield peg holes in the front of the tank, they match up as well. Also the round element with the riveted panel around it. Then the shape of the tank on the top is the same! Mystery cracked!

June 15, 2025 Update: Skycutter Tease and Preorder

Heads up, ThunderCats fans! A new tease has just surfaced hinting that the highly anticipated Skycutter vehicle could be going up for preorder Monday, June 16, 2025. The tease was posted by Instagram account @wewantmorethundercats, who shared an image with the caption: “Who is ready for TOMORROW!!!!!.” While nothing has been officially confirmed by Super7 yet, the image also shows the hands of Vultureman—who famously pilots the Skycutter in the original cartoon. Stay tuned, as we’ll be watching closely for official word and preorder links as they become available!

LJN Vintage Vultureman & Mutant Skycutter

Huge thanks to Wewantmorethundercats on Instagram, for this first look at the new Tygra reissue figure! What he points out is that ” Your first exclusive look at the new TYGRA reissue. Yes, he comes with the armband corrected, and his skintone is a lot closer to the DX figure, with the shading not as apparent as the first release. A vast improvement. I bet he’ll sell out fast too. The next wave of ThunderCats Ultimates figures has been now officially teased by Super 7! . We covered the previously leaked images on Wave 14 which includes King Lion-O, Light Up Eyes Red-Eye and Wizz Ra. Now we got to see Red-Eye and King Lion-O! These are super deep cuts for this line, and we still have some mainline characters that have yet to be made. The images we have a super blurry, but you can get an idea of what the figures are going to look like. So let’s take a look at the Super7 ThunderCats Ultimates Wave 14 teased images! Once we get more information, we will be sure to update you.

King Lion-O

The first figure in this 3 figure wave is King Lion-O. They seem to have used the latest sculpt for Lion-O just recently used for the light up eyes version and Deluxe figure, and created this new Wave 14 King Lion-O figure. Lion-O comes with 2 alternate heads both of which he is wearing his crown. We can’t wait till they reveal this one so we can see King Lion-O in all his glory. I love that he includes a Glow in the Dark Sword!

Here we can take a look at Lion-O’s package from both front and rear. You can see the rear is not an illustration, but a digital render of the actual figure.

He comes with a screaming alternate head, a staff and a pair of alternate hands. In the 1980’s ThunderCats cartoon series, Red-Eye is a mutant villian, specifically a type of reptilian humanoid. Red-Eye is characterized by his distinct red eyes, which give him his name, and he is known for his fierce and aggressive nature. Red-Eye serves as one of the antagonists in the series, often working alongside other villains like Mumm-Ra and the Mutants of Plun-Darr. His character typically embodies the traits of cunning and brute strength, making him a formidable opponent for the ThunderCats, who are trying to protect their new home on Third Earth from various threats.

TigerSharks LJN Toy Line

Tiger Sharks toy line debuted in 1987, coinciding with the launch of the animated series “TigerSharks.” LJN Toys was most famously known for producing ThunderCats and WWE Superstar action figures based on popular media properties. The show was part of a wave of similar cartoon properties that aimed to sell toys to children by Rankin/Bass. Rankin /Bass also produced similar related children’s cartoons with the ThunderHawks and Silverhawks cartoon series in the 80’s.

The toy line featured a variety of action figures based on the characters from the animated series. Some of the notable characters included T-Ray, Mako, Boulder, Gills, Gwen, and The Shark. Many of the toy’s figures had unique designs that reflected their aquatic themes, and some came with vehicles or accessories.

• T-Ray: he leader of the Tigersharks.
• Mako: The second main character in the Tiger Sharks line, often depicted as a strong and courageous figure.
• Boulder: A muscular character who provided strength and comic relief.
• Gills: A character with fish-like qualities.
• Gwen: The female member of the Tiger Sharks, who played a crucial role in the team.

While the animated series garnered a modest following, the toy line did not achieve the same level of success as other contemporary toy lines, such as those based on “Transformers” or “G.I. Joe.” The Tiger Sharks toys were primarily marketed to children and aimed to capitalize on the nostalgia of the late 80s. ThunderCats are on the move, ThunderCats are loose once again with the ThunderCats Ultimates Wave 12 Super7 leaked images! This time we have a long awaited character joining the line, along with some deep cut characters. This wave includes the long awaited Safari Joe, and another Warrior Maiden, Nayda, plus we also get another Berserker with Cruncher! These images were leaked via the a spanish website, Ecuacollections. Huge heads up to our friend, Mega Jay Retro who has made a video about this and Toyhuntershollow on Instagram for the wave 12 photo below! So let’s dive into these Super7 ThunderCats Ultimates Wave 12 leaked images! We knew something big was coming because Entertainment Earth have us a hint on their drop zone calendar that a new wave was going to be up for preorder at 12pm PST, on January 23rd! Once the preorders hit we will be sure to update you!

Safari Joe

Let’s start with the long awaited and fan favorite Safari Joe! Safari Joe is known as the intergalactic big-game hunter and is typically seen with his robot assistant, Mule. He looks just like his vintage LJN counterpart and packed with his companion robot, Mule! Plus he includes a blowtorch gun, knife and alternate head. Safari Joe looks incredible and includes his classic glass monocle on his right eye and his red bandana. Mule looks like he stepped right out of the cartoon!

Let’s take a look at the back history of Safari Joe and Mule.

According to: Safari Joe | ThunderCats wiki | Fandom:

Under the assumption that he will find “good hunting”, Safari Joe travels to Third Earth. He then hunts the ThunderCats, he manages to capture most of the Thundercats by exploiting their weakness’; Wilykit and Wilykat (shoots darts into their spaceboards), Cheetara (energy bolts), Tygra (who can’t swim), Panthro (bats), but is ultimately defeated by his prey.

Safari Joe is not a man of integrity. He would give his word as a sportsman, then turn around and renege on his promise.

After the Thundercats were freed from their cages, Panthro reprogrammed Mule so that Safari Joe could be monitored when the former interstellar big game hunter left Third Earth in peace.

Later clones of Safari Joe, along with Rataro , Slithe , and Spidera were made by Mumm-Ra in an attempt to kill Lion-O.

According to Mule | Thundercats Wiki | Fandom:

Mule is a the robotic side-kick and assistant of the big game hunter, Safari Joe . Having somewhat the appearance of a tiny locomotive, Mule is a very hard working robot who basically does everything for Safari Joe.

He searches for potential prey and then gathers as much information as he can about them. He then displays these collected profiles on the “Holojector” for his master to observe and learn from. He also sets up the “Electronic Blind” for their spaceship as well as construct cages for the captured preys. When Safari Joe is away hunting, Mule acts as a guard to prevent any caught prey from escaping. Despite how badly Safari Joe treats him, Mule is still very loyal to his master.

After Safari Joe is defeated by the ThunderCats and promises to never hunt again, Panthro modifies Mule’s work directive programming to ensure that the robot makes Safari Joe stay true to his word.

The vintage LJN figure, which was part of Series 3, is highly sought after and goes for a pretty penny on the aftermarket! Finally we get yet another Berserker with Cruncher! Cruncher is a member of the Berserkers and a huge pirate, whose strength can crush buildings and boulders! This version of Lion-O is a great upgrade to version 1, with pinless joints and uses the same newer buck that Mirror Lion-O and Wave 6 Toy Variant Lion-O uses. You can see the updated ab crunch and cleaner elbow and knee joints.

Here the new buck with pinless joints is so obvious as you can see what a vast improvement this version is.

His hair color is redder than the V1 version, and much less wash, which I really like. I always felt that the first version of Lion-O’s hair was always too dark, so this is a welcome update.

Close ups of Lion-O’s torso with his nice belt with the ThunderCats logo on it. He also includes a Claw Sheild with short sword of Omen you can clip to the side of his belt. The sword can be removed from the claw shield and held in his hands.

A look at that short Sword of Omens once removed from the Claw Shield. Also here is a close up of Lion-O’s alternate head. He has a fierce grimacing look on his face.

Lion-O comes with multiple Claw Shields that attach to his left hand peg. There is an open hand, a closed fist and a Claw Sheild with a shooting claw!

Some more fun poses. One of his alternate hands has a vertical hinge joint so you can hold the Sword of Omens aloft!

Finally, you can see here doing the classic “Sight beyond Sight” pose.

Version 1 vs Reissue Comparison

Let’s take a look at the Version 1 vs Reissue Comparison. The biggest change of course is the use of the pinless more recent buck. The skin color of the new version is alittle bit light than the first version, and of course as mentioned above, the new version has redder hair with much less dark wash in it. It looks much better. The body proportions of the new reissue buck are much better as it looks much more of a natural design for Lion-O.

Finally, looking at the side views, you can see the new reissue version uses the pinless joints in his elbows and knees.

The Reptillians

The Reptilians hail from the planet Plun-Darr. Under the command of Slithe, they attacked the Thunderian Flagship in order to steal the Eye of Thundera. However, their attempts were thwarted by the ThunderCats. They neverthelesss followed the Flagship all the way to Third Earth where they again tried to gain possession of the Eye, albeit unsuccessfully. After this defeat at the hands of the Cats, most of the Reptilians left Third Earth in their spaceships. A few remained behind with the Mutants and worked for them as guards, cooks and fighters.

King Lion-O

The first figure in this 3 figure wave is King Lion-O. They seem to have used the latest sculpt for Lion-O just recently used for the light up eyes version and Deluxe figure, and created this new Wave 14 King Lion-O figure. Lion-O comes with 2 alternate heads both of which he is wearing his crown. We can’t wait till they reveal this one so we can see King Lion-O in all his glory.

He also comes with his claw sheild, closed sword and extended sword of Omens. Plus a staff and a pair of alternate hands.

Red Eye

Next we have Red Eye which includes light up eye! That is so cool that Super7 is incorporating the light up eyes feature in another figure! He comes with a screaming alternate head, a staff and a pair of alternate hands. In the 1980’s ThunderCats cartoon series, Red-Eye is a mutant villian, specifically a type of reptilian humanoid. Red-Eye is characterized by his distinct red eyes, which give him his name, and he is known for his fierce and aggressive nature. Red-Eye serves as one of the antagonists in the series, often working alongside other villains like Mumm-Ra and the Mutants of Plun-Darr. His character typically embodies the traits of cunning and brute strength, making him a formidable opponent for the ThunderCats, who are trying to protect their new home on Third Earth from various threats.

You can see that Red Eye comes with an alternate head, alternate hands and a scepter or staff.

Wizz Ra

Finally, we have Wizz-Ra which is a Pharaoh like character. In the ThunderCats cartoon series, Wizz-Ra is depicted as a powerful sorcerer and a skilled magic user. Wizz-Ra is notable for being one of the few characters with the ability to wield magic, which sets him apart from many of the other members of the ThunderCats and their adversaries. Wizz-Ra was often portrayed as a benevolent figure, using his magical abilities to aid the ThunderCats in their quest against evil. He may provide them with advice, artifacts, or magical assistance during their battles against villains like Mumm-Ra. Overall, Wizz-Ra signifies the theme of magic in the “ThunderCats” universe, representing wisdom and the potential for redemption through the use of mystical powers. Wizz-Ra comes with an alternate sinister looking bald head with no pupils. He also includes multiple sets of hands, two of which have energy effects, and a chain accessory.
